Most people today associate the phrase "Candle in the Wind" with the Elton John tribute at Princess Diana's funeral service. My first encounter with "Candle in the Wind" was during my freshman year at Stanford when we read T.H. White's "The Once and Future King." "Candle in the Wind" is the last part of White's re-telling of the Arthurian legends. Arthur tells Tom of Warwick that his work to build a better world was like a "candle in the wind" that he sheltered during his life and that he passes on to Tom and future generations.
